Adam Pye

John Pye & Sons

Registration from: 11:45am

Lunch: 12:30pm

November’s lunch welcomed Adam Pye, managing director of John Pye & Sons, to NCBC.

Event Roundup

Recently named as one of LDC’s ‘Top 50 Most Ambitious Business Leaders 2023’, Adam told members and guests what it’s like to head up the biggest auction house in the UK. From humble beginnings in Nottingham’s Cattle Market, the business has just reached past the £100m for sales for the first time in its history.

Adam puts the success of John Pye & Sons down to several high-profile projects, including diversifying the business into an online auction house and innovating by offering a parcel service from its dedicated warehouses.

The company’s values are also what defines its success – do the right thing, think innovatively and be successful are displayed in most rooms around its premises. He said, “We have a policy of promoting from within. We employ generations of staff. It’s about cultivating both the individual and the team. We never ask staff to do something that we wouldn’t want to do.” Staff are rewarded for their loyalty. They get a share of profits and there is an onsite gym, coffee lounges and games rooms. It’s easy to see why this business keeps winning awards. Thank you to Adam for sharing a slice of his Pye with us, a fascinating talk.
